about

From the album "Vuoste Virdái".

You cannot suppress a living language. It lives and thrives in the spoken word, in musical expressions and in our personal relations. Language will always find its own ways in new acquaintances, recurring conversations and the unbending force of creativity.

As modern society grows, thoughtless bureaucracy all too easily tramples minorities down. The strength and resistance against this movement is first and foremost found with the people, in their everyday life. This is ÁRA's territory - the meeting of personal, the Sami tradition and visionary energy. With their first studio album “O”, ÁRA created new paths for jojk as an art form.

ÁRA now releases their sophomore album “Vuoste Virdái” (Against the stream). ÁRA wants to praise and pay homage to all those who over the years taught their children the Sami language, in the face of cultural pressure and shame. A celebration to everyone who decided to go against the stream, to all those who still today go against the stream. To all those who stand proud in their tradition and history and
conjure up the courage to be themselves. Tradition and inspiration, friendship and warmth, jojk and improvisation. There is really nothing that sounds quite like ÁRA. A strong presence, a journey through landscapes of sounds and words
