Ditte: When my nephew Matts was a child he was called Masse, a burden also borne by others with that name in our family. Now he is 6 feet tall, but when he was just a few years old he was chasing pigeons down a street in Upsala one day when we were out for a Sunday stroll. It was quite obvious to everyone, including Matts, that he would never catch one, but
he still threw himself into the task with heart and soul.
The origin of the lyrics is in no way whatsoever connected to that of the tune. It just so happened that I used the melody for these words. Possibly one can see an association in that the words, after all, express the same
irrepressible positivism as shown by Matts on his pigeon hunt.

“Hand on heart”: deceit and pain,
weeping and gnashing of teeth follow in its tracks,
terrible love, makes me weak and vulnerable,
say, is it worth all the tears that I’ve shed? YES!!!
