“I walked out one summer’s day…” tells a familiar tale of a broken heart and leaving home. The song is found in many versions, usually in a mixture of Norwegian and Swedish, as here. Our version was learned from an archive recording of Hilmar Havold from Østfold. Hilmar is so moved by the last verse (where he bids his family a final farewell) that his voice breaks with emotion. The song is followed by a halling from the playing of Gustav Johannesson just over the Swedish border in Bohuslän.
