One of the classics of English folk song, The Captain’s Apprentice has inspired composers like Ralph Vaughan Williams and Benjamin Britten and found its way into many singers’ repertoires. Richard has had it in his for over 40 years. Cruelty on board ship was commonplace and usually went unpunished.
The song can be seen as a warning to captains that even they were not entirely above the law. The title of Anders’s tune is an atrocious pun involving South Korean pop and a gangar - a Norwegian dance form in 2/4 or 6/8 time.
