A combination of a song and a tune, both from the Swedish province Dalarna. Gråtlåten is a polska from the playing of Hjort Anders Olsson (1865-1952) from Bingsjö.
Ditte: Many Free Churches, some of them extremely severe in their view of amusement in all its forms, emerged in Sweden during the second half of the nineteenth century. One could imagine the song being about a person who, in the wake of the revivalist movement, gives up his beloved fiddle. The second tune is called “the weeping tune” – quite apt in that context.
